Hey there! I’m Allison Egidi. I’m so glad you’re here because I’m guessing we have something in common. We both love sleep! My need for sleep, and my struggle to figure out how to get it for my whole family, resulted in my obsession with it.
I know, that sounds odd. Let me backup. I like to think of myself as someone who, for the most part, has been able to accomplish anything I really set my mind to. That is until my first daughter Addison was born. Wow, was that a humbling experience… giving birth was a nightmare, nursing was impossible (literally), and as the months went by, sleep went from minimal to virtually non-existent.
I eventually recovered from (but certainly didn’t forget!) giving birth and did my best to accept that my daughter would not be exclusively breastfed (thank goodness “Fed is Best” is gaining ground these days), but the sleep… ooooh, the sleep. Everyone said it would get better…at 4 months, at 6 months, at 12 months…eventually?? I read the books and got endless amounts of advice from friends and family, but Addison’s sleep was like a roller coaster ride (I’m terrified of roller coasters, by the way) that I couldn’t get off!
And then my second daughter Ainsley arrived and I reached my breaking point… seriously, it was the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life. I was so tired, and the extreme exhaustion was bringing out all sorts of anxiety. It was awful. One morning I was sitting at my desk (probably drinking coffee and thinking about how tired I was) and I saw a college friend posting on a sleep consultant’s facebook page. “SLEEP CONSULTANT?!” I thought to myself. “I don’t know what that is, but I need one!”
That was the turning point…. 11 days after implementing the sleep plan we got from the consultant, the entire house was sleeping. My nearly 2 years of sleep deprivation was over and my obsession with sleep began! Now that I was able to think straight, the same thought kept crossing my mind over-and-over, “My husband and I are smart and resourceful people – why was it so hard to get our child sleeping well?!” I started reading all the books I could get my hands on and digging into sleep research. I was completely geeking out on all things related to infant and child sleep. Then, friends started asking me to help them with their children’s sleep. That’s when I decided to step it up a notch, and I earned my pediatric sleep consultant certification from the Family Sleep Institute. I created my sleep coaching business so I could help parents avoid the unnecessary exhaustion, stress, and anxiety that I experienced for nearly two years.
I feel incredibly lucky to be able to help children and parents get the rest they need! Bonus: some of my clients have even said I’ve helped their marriage. It’s amazing how sleep can reduce frustration and arguing!
My Coaching Style
No Judgement – at one point Addison was waking every 45 minutes and we unsuccessfully tried every trick in the book, so I don’t judge!
Compassion – this parenting thing is no joke, and I think we all deserve a little compassion.
Reassurance – my clients do the work, but I’m here to support them every step of the way.
